Houndstooth longsleeve jacket from Jacques Fath’s Spring/Summer 1994 ready-to-wear runway show under the artistic direction of Tom van Lingen.
"Fath was increasingly regarded as the "heir apparent to Dior's throne." Noted Life Magazine in 1949: "Dior is still generally acknowledged to be the head man, so to speak, of the fashion world, but Fath has recently had a spectacular rise in prestige, and it now seems likely that the next look to confront and impoverish the U.S. male will be the Fath look." Carmel Snow, editor of Harper's Bazaar, revised her earlier opinion of Fath, declaring, "He makes you look like you have sex appeal—and believe me, that's important."
"Relaunched by the France Luxury Group in 1992, Jacques Fath was purchased in 1996 by the Banque Saga Group, which appointed Tom van Lingen, a Dutch designer, as its head designer. From 1988 to 1992 Van Lingen worked as an assistant to Bernard Perris, before being appointed artistic director of Jacques Fath, where he stayed from 1992 to 1997".
